Bond Through Exercise

Our goal for all of our clients at Specialty Athletic Training is for them to be able to exercise independently and to make exercise a part of their every day life. A majority of our clients have had a negative experience with exercise in the past and have low self-esteem and/or low self-confidence, especially when it comes to fitness as a result. So then what's our secret to having our clients looking forward to their visits to Specialty Athletic Training, even though they typically despise exercise? We make it FUN!

We are very fortunate to have an accepting community, amazing interns, trainers that are constantly wanting to learn more about how they can better communicate with clients, beautiful facilities, and all located at the #5 most beautiful college campus in the nation (Lewis & Clark College). All of these things help provide a positive and fun environment for our clients while they train at Specialty Athletic Training, so it is no wonder why our clients love coming to see us.

"How do I get my child to exercise/be active at home?"

This is the common question that we are asked by parents. Every workout that we do with our clients at Specialty Athletic Training is recorded and sent via email to the parents with break down of each exercise (sets, reps, rest), a written description of how to perform each exercise, photos demonstrating how to perform the exercise, as well as a video demonstration. Some parents are able to take these emails and perform the exercise program at home. But what if their child isn't as motivated at home or if the child views their home as a safe place that is exercise free?

Exercise as a bonding experience

Your child may be unmotivated to exercise at home, but may be more willing to do exercise if you do it with them. Make exercise a family activity that every one does together. It is a great way to spend time with your child and show that exercise is something that is important for you to do as well. You can find examples of exercises that you can do at home at our YouTube Channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/SpAthTraining/videos).

Here are some other activities that you can do outdoors with your child that will increase their heart rate and put a smile on their face:
  1. Boffering
  2. Geocaching
  3. Biking
  4. Swimming
  5. Hiking
